Katsumi Massage

Katsumi Massage was launched by a newly licensed massage therapist seeking to establish her first professional online presence. While a website had already been created by a friend, the overall experience felt dark, compact, and misaligned with the calming atmosphere she wanted clients to associate with her practice. The goal of this project was to redesign the existing site into a more open, welcoming, and trustworthy digital space that would support client inquiries and bookings.

The Challenge

Once inside the backend, it became clear that the redesign would require more than visual updates. The existing domain was misspelled, creating an immediate credibility issue that could discourage potential clients and hinder search visibility. In addition, the site had been built as an e-commerce store despite no products being sold, resulting in unnecessary plugins, added cost, and performance slowdowns.

The site structure also lacked clear hierarchy and keyword alignment, limiting its ability to be indexed effectively by search engines. While the initial scope focused on visual redesign, addressing these foundational issues was essential to creating a functional and discoverable website.

Strategic Direction

The visual direction centered on spacious layout, soft contrast, and a calming palette designed to reflect the restorative nature of massage therapy. Colors were intentionally selected using complementary relationships to create balance and cohesion throughout the site. The overall tone needed to feel peaceful, open, and welcoming while maintaining professionalism.

Typography decisions were approached with equal care. While a script-style font was initially preferred, readability remained a priority to ensure content was clear and accessible across devices. Elegant type pairings were selected to preserve the desired aesthetic without compromising legibility.

Font sizing and spacing were refined to support comfortable reading and practical usability. Each adjustment balanced visual harmony with real-world accessibility considerations.

A consistent visual system was applied across imagery, including subtle tonal adjustments to unify photography and prevent disruption between sections. Structure and design systems across layout, color, typography, and media ensure long-term consistency and scalability.

Digital Experience & Execution

The website was rebuilt within the Hostinger platform, requiring adaptation to a new system while optimizing performance and removing unnecessary e-commerce functionality. Core site structure was simplified, redundant plugins were eliminated, and backend settings were refined to improve speed and clarity.

To strengthen search visibility, additional supporting copy and section structure were implemented to introduce clearer keyword alignment and improved hierarchy. Contact accessibility was prioritized, with clear call-to-action placement, a streamlined contact form, and clickable email and phone links to reduce friction in the booking process.

The final result delivered a significantly lighter, more welcoming digital presence while correcting critical structural and technical issues that were limiting performance.
